What is SSL Certificate and how to renew it

Last update: Mar 14, 2025

SSL certificate (Secure Sockets Layer) is a digital certificate of your website. It is required to prevent attackers from obtaining personal data (logins and passwords, bank card details, emails) that guests enter on your website.

Additionally, SSL certificate authenticates your website’s identity, which helps guests to make sure the website is reliable. If you have an SSL certificate, the site address in the browser starts with ‘https://’ and a lock icon is displayed next to it.

What happens if the SSL Certificate is not renewed

Guests entering your website will see a warning the website is not secure, close it and leave without making a booking.

This is an example of a warning your guests will see when trying to open your website, if the SSL certificate is not renewed.

How to renew the SSL certificate

If your website is supported by HOTEL SALES WIZARD LLC FE, you do not need to do anything — our specialists monitor the SSL certificate validity and renew it in a timely manner.

In case your website is created using Exely Hotel Website Builder and the “Use HTTPS” setting is enabled in the domain setting, SSL certificate will be renewed automatically.

If your website is supported by a different company or the hotel’s IT department, please contact a manager who has access to the hosting or SSL provider account to renew the SSL certificate.
